Grant from Carraig Gheal Wind Farm

March 25, 2019

We are delighted to announce that the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund continues to support the Friends of St Conan’s Kirk with our overall aims. In this case we have received an award of £7,000 towards the cost of the restoration of the Chapel gates of the St Brides Chapel and St Conval’s Chapel. In the image below you can see the rusty nature of the gates which, once restored, will mean the ongoing corrosion and damage will be stopped, preserving the gates for another 100 years. The St Brides and St Conval’s chapels are the resting place of Walter Douglas-Campbell (who designed the Kirk) and Archibald Douglas, 4th Baron Blythswood (who was one of the Trustees who saw it through to completion) respectively.
