In the Chancel you will find the Font. At the base you can see that it is dedicated to the niece of Helen Douglas Campbell, who was named Helen Janet Douglas Campbell Laurie. She was Helen’s favourite niece and married in the Kirk in 1900 and died in 1919 in the Spanish Flu outbreak, which also took her husband.
The Font has a “Zulu” herring boat on top, that gained its name during the South African Zulu wars. Two bronze cherubs support the boat and these are attached to a large granite ball. This is likely to have come from Iona.
At the foot, you can read the dedication to Janet from her Aunt.
