Park Wins the St Conan’s Cup 2025!

July 4, 2025

Each spring since 2014, local primary schools have been invited to take part in this art competition. The Cup is awarded to the school attended by the winner. Participating primary schools this year were: Dalmally, Lochnell, Taynuilt, Park, St Columba’s and Rockfield. We received some 250 individual entries!

In line with our aim of sharing the heritage of St Conan’s with an ever-wider audience, the schools were sent photos of some of the Clan Shields in the Choirstalls, together with templates to design their own shields.  The resulting drawings were impressive!

Anna Twigg, a local artist based in Taynuilt, accepted our challenge to carefully review all the entries and choose a winner.

Anna commented, “Congratulations to all the young artists! Their creativity and imagination truly shone through in every piece. It was wonderful to see all the different styles and colour pallets which made judging not only a pleasure but also very tricky!”

The Cup was awarded to Park Primary for the shield designed by Eleanor Strain P5.

The school with the highest quality of entries overall was Taynuilt Primary.

In addition, the work of several of the young artists from the various schools was “highly commended” .

This afternoon, 5 of our volunteers set up the St Conan’s Cup Exhibition. All the entries from the six schools participating can be seen in the kirk throughout the summer. They make a very cheerful display.

Come along and see them!
