We were delighted and honoured when Teàrlach MacDonald from Tearlach Yoga contacted us recently. Teàrlach runs Yoga classes in the area and over the last few years he has been celebrating the Summer Soltice with 108 Sun Salutations.
This practice is a symbolic and physical ritual, often seen as a way to honour the sun and its energy, as well as to mark the changing of seasons. The number 108 is considered sacred in yoga and other traditions.
Teàrlach said “I have been doing 108 sun salutations for a number of years. It became a tradition to do this and fundraise at the same time when I used to practice with the wonderful community at Our World Yoga in Glasgow. Charities we have supported over the years have been quite diverse from saving gorillas, help towards funding for schools in Rwanda to more local charities such as Mary’s meals. Last year we raised just over £500 to help support the National Autistic Society”
This year he kindly decided to choose St Conan’s Kirk as the charity, especially as he and his class were performing their 108 Sun Salutations up on the Cruachan Dam, just a few minutes away from the Kirk.
Teàrlach achieved all 108 Salutations as did some of those who supported the day from the Dalmally, Kilchrenan and Inverary community, including Gary, Alison, Sarah, Costas, Lindsay, and Tina, with an extra shout out to Costas who officially verified the 108 count!
Teàrlach has created a Total Giving page, so if you would like to donate, please follow the link
Thank you to Teàrlach and all those who took part. All donations to the Kirk are very gratefully received.
