This year we chose ‘Mysterious Boats’ as the competition subject. Each school was provided with an exciting introductory paragraph about a Captain, his crew and a strange boat making their way to St Conan’s Kirk. The children were asked to illustrate this and to tell what the Captain and crew found in St Conan’s. The result was a wide variety of colourful drawings of some very imaginative boats and crew along with entertaining ideas of what they found. We particularly liked a cup of tea , a choir and a treasure map leading to a pot of gold.
The judges had a very difficult time choosing which picture was the best but the eventual winner was Carrie Elkerton from Taynuilt Primary School whose entry won the St Conan’s Art Cup. Each school had highly commended pictures and the overall best school was Lochnell Primary School with the highest standard of entries.
The drawings have been displayed in St Conan’s from July until October and were much admired by everyone visiting the Kirk.
