We were delighted and fascinated this week when we were contacted by the Historian and Archivist from St Anne’s Church in Bagshot, Surrey.
It appears that our beloved St Michaels window, designed and created by Queen Victoria’s daughter, Princess Louise, is in fact a smaller version of the same window that she designed in 1895 and had installed in St Anne’s in memory of Sir Howard Elphinstone.
The original window was made of three panels, with St Raphael and St Gabriel on each side of St Michael.
Whilst not identical, the similarities clearly show that Princess Louise used the same design for the two windows.
We now wonder how many other St Michaels are hiding around the country!

Here a short video showing our St Michael overlayed onto the St Anne’s one.
