This page is designed to allow local schools to download resources about St Conan’s Kirk.

Below is a list of resources, with a description and a download option.


Map of the Kirk

This is a PNG showing a map of the Kirk and highlighting the main areas.

This can be used in conjunction with a site visit

This is a PNG showing a map of North Argyll and the locations of all the schools in respect to the location of St Conan’s

Animals in the Kirk

This is a PDF containing imagery of all the different animals, both real and imaginary, that can be found in the Kirk. Location maps are given for each animal.

This can be used in conjunction with a site visit, tasking the children to find each animal and tick it off their list.

Clan Stalls

This resource contains 2 PDF’s . The first contains images of each of the Clan Stalls that are in the Chancel and the 2nd, a template “shield” that could be used as guidance.

You could use this as a basis for introducing simply heraldic concepts and as a starting point for the children to make their own badges, shields or logos.

20 Facts about Walter

This is a PDF containing a list of 20 facts about Walter Douglas Campbell

You could use this as a reference during a site visit to educate the children on the history of the man who built the Kirk.

Short Story & Artwork Exercise

This is a PDF containing an abridged version of a story written by Walter Douglas Campbell entitled MacQuorquodale and the Yellow Shore. The story is about 2 trolls who are beaten by a local hero.

This can be used as a basis of an artwork project, as different scenes are described after the story and children could be tasked with drawing the scenes themselves.

Stained Glass & Artwork Exercise

This is an interactive Powerpoint presentation that can be used to look at the details and show the construction of the various Stained Glass windows found in the Kirk

To use the presentation, download and run the presentation – there is a menu page where you can click on window to view it in detail via a short animated transistions (40-50 seconds per window).

This resource can be used to demonstrate how stained glasss is made and can be a basis for children making their own “stained” glass using resources such as card and coloured paper.
