Sportive in the Sun!

May 19, 2025

We were happy to again act as a Feed Station for Oban Sportive yesterday, Sunday May 18th.

For the third successive year, two of our volunteers handed out water and cakes to the saddle weary but impressively fit cyclists taking part. This event is a true “sportive” and not a race. The organisers say

“We truly want everyone to come and enjoy cycling in our part of the world as much as we do!”

Our Feed Station was the second and last on the Long Route. This takes the cyclists along 87 miles of stunning scenery. And what a day to be seeing it! The sun shone all the way making for a hot but glorious ride. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their day and was remarkably cheerful. Almost all took the opportunity to stop and have a short rest in the shade of our oak trees, appreciating the delicious cakes and water provided by Oban Sportive.

The St Conan’s volunteers enjoyed being part of this. We now recognise some of those who take part every year. It’s a really feel-good experience for all…particularly on a lovely spring day.

Note the 21st Century use for a Standing Stone!
