While all other dates in this year’s season of Community Singing Workshops are on Saturday afternoons, this session took place on Friday evening. It is a credit to Stephen Williams, the Musical Director, and to the commitment of the singers, that so many turned out at the end of the working week, especially as weather-wise, it was far from lovely! Very unseasonal with heavy rain and really quite dark!
The gloom was, however, quickly lifted when the singing filled the kirk with delightful, much-loved tunes. The programme was: Moon River, Can’t Help Fallin’ in Love (Elvis was in the building!! See below), Sweet Caroline, Unchained Melody, Brown-Eyed Girl, My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and Make Me Feel Your Love.
In the midst of all the singing there was a break for cake.
Our homebakers had produced a tempting range including Coffee Sponge, Peppermint Slice, Banana Loaf, Fresh Cream Meringues, Tiffin and Gingerbread. This seemed to be much enjoyed by all.
The theme for the next Singing Day, Saturday August 15th , 1.30-4pm, is Summer Songs. Let’s hope the weather takes the hint!
