It’s always a shame to cut down beautiful mature trees, however, the two non-native Douglas Fir trees that stood in the gardens at the front of the Kirk were proving to be causing multiple issues with the integrity of the building.
At such a size, they were blocking out the sunlight and therefore warmth to the Kirk, meaning that the stonework was remaining damp, even on warm sunny days.
In addition, the copious amount of needles that the two trees drop each year lead to blocked drainage channels and drainpipes, which in turn lead to water penetrating the roof and causing leaks into the building.
And finally, the one closest to the Kirk was beginning to undermine the building with it’s roots.
Therefore, it’s was with a heavy heart that we commissioned the removal of the trees.
However, we are delighted with the result, opening the view to Kilchurn Castle, drying of the stonework and no more blocked drains.
