St Conan’s was filled with the Sound of Music on Sunday!
Our season of Community Singing sessions got off to a truly uplifting start with a selection of songs from this much-loved musical.
These workships, promoting vocal confidence and healthy voice production, are open to all members of the community near and far. Visitors are also welcome. Under the experienced direction of Stephen Williams, the participants, numbering over 80, were coached in the first part of the afternoon and after the interval sang through the programme with, indeed, increased confidence and skill. The soloists all performed splendidly.
We are grateful to James Carmichael for stepping in to provide excellent keyboard accompaniment.
As is customary with the Sound of Music, some dressing up was in evidence. Lederhosen and alpine hats with feathers added an extra dimension. Quite a number of wimples were also to be seen. An enormous slice of toast, and bucket of jam added to the props!
The interval deserves its own mention as the the home-baking team had been hard at work to create a very tempting assortment of cakes. Served by a fairly dodgy-looking collection of nuns, the cakes were much enjoyed by all.
It was a really fun afternoon!
Next in the season will be “World Music” . Can’t wait to hear it!
